Rocket Stove Group Purchase Extended to Feb 26th

A 'rocket stove' was on display at our "Stockin' Up" event. It uses a minimal amount of wood or charcoal, burns cleaner, and is fairly inexpensive. It could be an alternative fuel source for cooking. For more information, visit StoveTec.

This group order is being organized for an Eagle Scout project. All the profits will go toward purchasing two industrial size stoves for an orphanage in Uganda.

The last day to order is Feb 26. The price is $45.
Please confirm your order by email to farbout@verizon.net.
Send your check to: Jordan Farb, 5575 SW Menlo Drive, Beaverton, OR 97005.

Need RECIPES for your food storage plan?

A critical planning element of any food storage plan is WHAT to store. With Wendy DeWitt's system, she starts with specific recipes to answer that question. Maybe you've realized that you need to, or want to, take a look at more recipes. This may be the case if you want to plan some or all of your food storage meals for a worst case scenario (no running water and no electricity). Perhaps you are wanting to plan more one-dish type meals, or more meals using pantry items in place of fresh ingredients, or recipes using more long-term food storage items in your everyday cooking.

Here's some sources to check out:

Wendy DeWitt's booklet for her recipes.

Simply Prepared has a section on 'Book Reviews'. Click on the book title to open up a detailed book review. Also, on this site is a section 'Books.' You'll also find this book, Pantry Cooking: Unlocking Your Pantry's Potential.

Store Meals has a 5-week menu, complete with a shopping list, that is an extension of the author's cookbook.

Everyday Food Storage is beginning a new series on Emergency Cooking (or cooking with no electricity).

Food Storage Made Easy has lots of recipes. Check out their recipes using wheat without a wheat grinder.

Happy RECIPE Hunting!

Wendy DeWitt Food Storage System Booklet & Overview

To download a copy of Wendy DeWitt's booklet, "Putting the Foods You Love into Food Storage," click here.

Here's a short OVERVIEW of Wendy DeWitt's unique food storage system:

-Based on WORST CASE SCENARIO, no running water and no electricity.

-Determine how much food you need by basing your food storage on RECIPES.

-Factor in the type of COOKING SOURCE you will be using.

-Simplify rotation & avoid spoilage by storing items with 3+ yr SHELF LIFE.

-BOTTLE MEATS using a pressure canner--easy, juicy & tender, 3yr shelf life.

-Increase the shelf life of pantry items by VACUUM SEALING items in jars.

-STORE WATER for all your cooking needs.

-Create a food storage BINDER (recipes, exp dates, etc) & update annually.

Wendy's booklet explains all this and includes other helpful information: Food Storage Tips, Recipes, Substitutions, Source List and Equivalency Information.

The one question you may be asking...What can I use for a cooking source with no electricity? Check out a future post on cooking sources.
