They will lose nutritional value but are safe to eat. With this information, and the knowledge that most of the foods from the cannery will last 20 and 30 years, food storage and it's rotation have become much easier for everyone.

U of U Extension Center: http://extension.usu.edu/foodstorage/htm/canned-goods/

cedarmillsrshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01829929491044595945noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5292238291248113075.post-25668891458930585002010-05-19T22:17:00.000-07:002010-05-19T22:25:21.461-07:00Good Grocery Buys - Starting May 17thFred Meyer May 17 - 22

Navel Oranges 48c/lb
Spinach 98c bunch
Asparagus $1.98/lb
Fred Meyer 15 oz Canned Pasta w/Meat Sauce 75c
Fred Meyer 32 oz Yogurt 2/$3
Country Style Pork Ribs $1.59/lb
Whole/Half Alaska Halibut $4.99/lb
Fred Meyer BBQ Sauce 2/$1 (2)
w/ad coupon FM Doz Ex Lg Eggs 4/$5 (4)
FM 15-15.5 oz Beans 2/$1 (10)

Safeway w/store card May 19 - 25

Fresh chicken Thighs/drumsticks 99c/lb
PF Cod/Mahi Mahi/Cat Fish $4.99/lb
Seedless Water Melon $4.99
Leaf / Iceberg Lettuce 99c
Safeway Select 30-32 oz Mayonnaise $1.99
Doz Safeway Select Artisan Bagels $3.99
Dairy Glen Gal Milk $1.99
Lucerne Cream Cheese 98c
Pillsbury Cake Mix 99c
32 oz Di Girono Pizza $3.99
2 Liter Pepsi/& Up 88c

Thriftway

In Ad $5 off Coupon w/ $40 or more Purchase
Roma tomatoes 79c/lb
32 oz Powerade Sports Drink 79c
WF 16 oz Jumbo Hot Dogs 99c
16 oz Cinnamon Bread 2/$3
w/ad cou[pon WF 16 oz Sour Cream 99c (2)
2 Liter Pepsi Soft Drinks 69c (2)
WF Doz Lg Eggs 49c (1) w/$10 Purchase

Haggen

Calif Sweet Onion 77c/lb
Haggen 18 ct Lg Eggs $1.99
Haggen 12 - 24 Roll Specially Soft Bath Tissue $4.99
Fri 21-23 sale Broccoli 57c/lb
Haggen 64 oz Premier Gala Apple Juice 99c (2)
Betty Crocker Super Moist Cake Mix 88c (4)
w/ad coupon 4-6oz Yoplait Yogurt 10/$4

Albertsons

w/store card 8 pc Dark Meat Fried Chicken $4.99
16-20 ct Lg Prawns/10-20 ct Scallops $6.99/lb
32 oz Powerade Sports Drink 75c
Buy 10, get 5 Free = 50c ea.
Celery 89c
10 # Russet Potatoes 98c
w/ad coupon Save $1 on 2 Dreyer's Ice cream 2/$5

Thanks to Vivian Carpenter, OH, for passing on this info.cedarmillsrshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01829929491044595945noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5292238291248113075.post-30472091822167913242010-05-17T09:31:00.000-07:002010-05-17T10:27:30.558-07:00WALTON FEED GROUP ORDERWalton Group Order is on! Please research it carefully yourself.

Rebecca Harrison, from the Bethany Ward, is sharing this tip about a camp oven, as a possible alternative to a solar oven mentioned in Wendy DeWitt's presentation (remember her system is based on no electricity available). While a solar oven has a distinct advantage because it doesn't require fuel, it obviously has its limitations in Oregon because of our weather.

From Rebecca: I found an Outdoor Camp Oven that runs on propane. It has an oven and two burners so you can use it for baking and cooking. I found it at Costco for $149.99 (plus you get a discount coupon to buy accessories at the company website).

Also on the company website, you can read reviews, as well as see 3 short videos on using the product. We may not be able to always use a solar oven here in Oregon to prepare our chocolate brownies (Wendy DeWitt's year's supply must-have :) ) but this will sure work!

Here is a description from the website:

You've always wanted an oven when camping - Now you can with the Outdoor Camp Oven. Don't let its compact size fool you. The Outdoor Camp Oven features over 13,500 total BTU's, the twin burners and spacious oven have plenty of power to get your cooking/baking done right. This stove's folding lid is designed with portability in mind. This camp oven is loaded with features. It is just perfect for your cabin, summer camping, or RV.

Features:
Matchless Igniter burners, Stainless steel construction, Nonstick enamel cooking surface, Oven thermometer, 2 oven racks. Powered by a disposable 1 lb propane tank - Can be adapted to use a 20lb tank.

Specs:
Range 5,300 BTU's per burner, Oven 3,000 BTU's, Top burner dimensions 12 x 21,
Inside Oven dimensions W 16" x H 10" x L 10", Top oven heat: 400 degrees, Weight 35 lbs

Pefect for muffins, cookies, casseroles, and Dutch oven dishes. (Would need to have the right size cooking pans for the small oven size.)

Thanks, Rebecca, for sharing this tip with us!cedarmillsrshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01829929491044595945noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5292238291248113075.post-48022431568366192672010-02-24T11:54:00.000-08:002010-02-24T11:56:11.710-08:00Good Grocery Buys Feb 21- Mar 2Thank you to Vivian Carpenter for this information!

Fred Meyer Red/Green/Black Grapes $1.28/lb Feb 21 - 27
FM 15 oz Pasta w/ MeatBalls/Meat sauce 75c
Foster Farms Whole Chicken 69c/lb
w/ad coupon FM 1# Butter 3/$5 (3)
Private Selection Ice Cream 2/$5 (4)
18-pk FM Lg Eggs 2/$4 (4)
Country Oven/Vita*Bee Bread 4/$5 (8)

Safeway w/store card 24oz Safeway Variety Breads 2/$3 Feb 24 - Mar 2
Jumbo Cantaloupe Melons 49c/lb
Pork Loin Half sliced Rib $1.29/lb
2 Ltr Pepsi/7 Up 99c
Safeway Softly 24 Dbl Roll Bath Tissue $9.99
Sat 27 - 28 sale Kraft Mac & Cheese 2/$1 (4)
14.25 - 32.7oz Safeway Select Pizza $2.99
5# Box Calif Clementine Tangerines $4.99
11.5 - 13 oz Doritos Tortilla Chips $1.79

Thriftway Asparagus $1.28/lb
Broccoli Crowns / Roma Tomatoes 68c/lb
Zucchini 99c/lb
Lg Lemon/Lime 3/$1
Fresh Dover Sole Fillets $3.99/lb
Angus Beef London Broil Buy 1 get 1 Free
Wed meal deal 8 pc Baked/Fried Chicken $5
w/ad coupon WF 16 oz Cottage Cheese 99c (2)
Tillamook 16oz Sour Cream $1.28 (2)
WF Med Cheddar Cheese $2.99 (1) w/$10 purchase
Thriftway/WF Gal Milk 99c (1) w/$10 purchase

Haggen Boneless/Skinless Chicken Breast Buy 1 get 1 free
Five Star Beef flank Steak Buy 1 get 1 free
Fresh Dover Sole Fillet $3.99/lb
Asparagus $1.28/lb
2 Ltr Pepsi 99c
Valu Time Milk $1.99
w/ad coupon 1# Haggen Pasta 77c (4)
16 oz Haggen Saltine Crackers 99c (2)
24 ct Top Care Pain Relief/Ibuprofen 99c (4)
68.75 oz Xtra Laundry Detergent 1.99 (2)

QFC W/store card Red Seedless Grapes/Lg Mango 10/$10
Dole Bananas 59c/lb
Private Selection Ice Cream $2.59
10 oz Assorted Varieties Donut Holes $1.99
19 - 31.65 oz Red Baron Pizza 3/$10
3 pc Cod Fish & Chips $3.99
Hot Fish Sandwich $1.99
Asian Value Meals/Rice Bowls $3.99

Albertsons w/store card Fresh Fryer Split Breast/Drumstick/Thigh 99c/lb
Albertsons 1# Butter $1.79
homelife 8 pk Awesome paper Towel /
Soft Choice 12 Dbl Roll Bath Tissue $3.99 (2)
12 Stem Rose Bunch $5.99cedarmillsrshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01829929491044595945noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5292238291248113075.post-54784004852496644702010-02-17T19:33:00.001-08:002010-02-17T20:18:37.021-08:00Rocket Stove Group Purchase Extended to Feb 26thA 'rocket stove' was on display at our "Stockin' Up" event. With Wendy DeWitt's system, she starts with specific recipes to answer that question. Maybe you've realized that you need to, or want to, take a look at more recipes. This may be the case if you want to plan some or all of your food storage meals for a worst case scenario (no running water and no electricity). Perhaps you are wanting to plan more one-dish type meals, or more meals using pantry items in place of fresh ingredients, or recipes using more long-term food storage items in your everyday cooking.

Here's some sources to check out:

Wendy DeWitt's booklet for her recipes.

Simply Prepared has a section on 'Book Reviews'.
